Fetterman tells Sanders to apologize for endorsing ‘predator’ Graham Platner

Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania urged Senator Bernie Sanders to rescind his support for Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner amid sexual assault allegations. Sanders has maintained his support for Platner despite accusations that he has a pattern of violence against women, including recent allegations from Jenny racicot, who accused Platner of entering her home intoxicated and sexually assaulting her. Platner has denied the allegations, calling them false and troubling. The controversy has lead Democratic leaders to pressure Platner to withdraw from the race to challenge Senator Susan Collins and threaten to withhold campaign funding if he remains in the race. Fetterman criticized Sanders for continuing to support Platner and referenced the recent accusations, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) on Monday called for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to rescind his endorsement of embattled Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner following sexual assault allegations.

Sanders has stood by Platner through a slew of controversies, including those that allege Platner has a pattern of violence against women, but as of Monday, the socialist senator has not joined top Democrats in withdrawing support of the Senate hopeful.

“I would really call Bernie Sanders to apologize for pushing this kind of predator more than anyone,” Fetterman said in an interview on Fox News. “I don’t know why you want to keep pushing these kinds of people. Maybe [Sanders] should consider, sit a few out and stop pushing these kind of communists and people, like [Platner]. Now [Platner] has been credibly accused of rape, and that’s fairly recent too. That was only less than five years ago.”

Fetterman’s comments follow a bombshell report from Politico that detailed a series of interviews with Jenny Racicot, 41, who had an on-and-off relationship with Platner for over two years until he allegedly drunkenly entered her home uninvited and forced himself on her.

Racicot met Platner on a dating app in 2019 and detailed an encounter from 2021 where Platner allegedly entered her house after she told him she didn’t want to see him and then groped her on the couch. She said she smelled alcohol on his breath and, despite telling him to stop, she said he followed her into her bedroom and had sex with her against her will.

PLATNER TO ‘REFLECT’ ON ‘BEST PATH FORWARD’ FOLLOWING SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS

Platner called the allegations “troubling, serious, and false” and said reporting of the sexual assault claims was “inaccurate.” He added that his campaign is aware of the effect the report will have.

Other leading Democratic organizations and top Democrats have urged Platner to withdraw from the race to unseat Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and threatened to withhold funding to the state’s Senate race if he doesn’t step down.
