Fetterman switching parties ‘likely before the midterms’: Joe Concha
Joe Concha, a Washington Examiner columnist, expressed concern that the Democratic Party’s rhetoric on Israel might alienate Senator John Fetterman and possibly lead him to switch parties. Concha criticized Democrats for harboring antisemitic sentiments and suggested that the party’s stance could become more anti-Israel, which fetterman opposes. Fetterman has publicly criticized his party for supporting Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, who withdrew amid sexual assault allegations and had a Nazi symbol tattoo, which he claimed to be unaware of its meaning. Fetterman’s frustrations with party support for controversial figures may prompt him to leave the Democrats and become an Independent or Republican before the upcoming midterms.Concha also noted that Fetterman recognizes the Democratic Party’s increasing antisemitism.
Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha warned that Democrats’ continued rhetoric on Israel could further alienate Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) from the party and potentially push him toward crossing the aisle.
“Democrat socialists do not like Israel in any way shape or form, there is definitely an antisemitic marination as far as their brand is concerned,” Concha said on Fox Business’s Varney & Company on Friday.

Concha argued that the Democratic Party in general view Israel “as an enemy,” even though they remain a staunch U.S. ally.
“I believe that the Democratic Party is going to become more anti-Israel. As long as we continue to do that, you make that official, you make that part of our platform, that’s my red line in the Democratic Party,” Fetterman said Thursday during an interview on Capitol Hill.
Fetterman also criticized the party for supporting former Maine Senate nominee Graham Platner. Platner officially withdrew from the race on July 10 after multiple allegations of sexual assault.
“The people that push that piece of s*** Platner now just made that much more difficult at this point,” Fetterman said.
While serving in the military, Platner got a Totenkopf tattoo, which is a Nazi symbol. He claimed he had no idea of its meaning.
In an November 2025 interview with Pod Save America host Tommy Vietor, Platner said, “I am not a secret Nazi.”
“I could definitely see him [Fetterman] becoming an Independent, and yes, maybe a Republican because of this issue,” Concha said.
“He sees where this party is going in terms of the antisemitism.”

Concha said Fetterman called out Democrats for “going to the mat” to support Platner.
“[Fetterman is] frustrated; I don’t blame him, and now, a switch to either being Independent or Republican, I would say, is likely before the midterms.”
