Feinstein’s daughter embroiled in legal dispute over family finances amidst senator’s health issues.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Family Engaged in‌ Legal Battle

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) family is currently embroiled in a legal⁤ battle that has brought to light private‍ disputes between ⁣her and her daughter against ⁣the three children of her late wealthy husband.

When financier Richard Blum, Feinstein’s husband⁣ since 1980, passed away in February of last year, ‍his net worth was estimated to ‌be around $1 billion. Feinstein, who already came from a‌ privileged background and had her⁣ own wealth, saw her standard of living significantly ⁢elevated by Blum’s fortune.

Financial⁤ Setbacks and Concerns

However, people familiar with Blum’s finances now reveal that the private equity magnate lost his billionaire status during the COVID-19 pandemic. This has resulted in‌ Blum’s heirs and beneficiaries receiving less than expected. This situation⁢ has caused concern,⁢ particularly for Feinstein and her‍ daughter, regarding⁤ the senator’s ability to cover her extensive medical costs following a ⁢shingles diagnosis in February, many of which may not be covered by insurance.

Amid questions surrounding the ⁤true value of Blum’s net worth, the California senator and her daughter, Katherine Feinstein, are currently engaged in two contentious court battles against⁣ the late financier’s three daughters from a previous marriage. Katherine Feinstein, a former ⁤San Francisco Superior Court judge and⁣ Blum’s stepdaughter, has filed claims in both cases on behalf of her mother, for whom‌ she has power of attorney.

Disputes and Allegations

The‍ first dispute revolves⁣ around Feinstein’s desire to sell a beach ⁢house just north of San Francisco, California. Feinstein accuses Blum’s‍ daughters of trying to use the property, which she claims is in disrepair, at her mother’s expense. The filing states that ⁢the Blums⁢ are limiting the‌ 90-year-old widow’s ability to sell parts of her late‌ husband’s trust ‍in ⁤order to increase the ⁢value of their inheritance after her death.

The second case involves a fight for control of⁤ Blum’s marital trust, ⁤established in 1996, which includes a life insurance policy and its proceeds. Katherine Feinstein alleges in a filing for this matter that her⁤ mother, as the “sole income beneficiary” for the trust, has been ⁢denied requested assets by its current trustees.

The filing further claims that⁤ two of Blum’s longtime associates, Marc Scholvinck and Michael Klein, ⁤were improperly appointed as trustees after his death and accuses them of⁣ refusing to fulfill Feinstein’s requests for money for medical expenses.

Steven Braccini, ⁢an attorney for Scholvinck and Klein, responded by stating that his clients were “perplexed by this filing” ⁤and that‌ Blum’s⁢ trust “has never denied any disbursement to Senator Feinstein, let alone for medical ⁣expenses.” Braccini also mentioned ⁢that there is no evidence showing that Katherine Feinstein has power of ⁤attorney‌ for ⁤her⁢ mother.

A Feinstein spokesman did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment on the senator’s ⁣daughter having power‌ of attorney for her.

Feinstein’s Health⁢ and Political Future

Feinstein, the Senate’s oldest member, has faced memory and cognition issues⁣ for years. However, it wasn’t until her‌ shingles diagnosis that her condition became ‍headline news. ‍In response to criticisms from within her party,‍ Feinstein announced that she would not⁢ seek reelection in 2024 but vowed to serve out the remaining 20 months ‍of⁢ her term.

Despite concerns about her fitness to serve, ‍Feinstein has remained ⁣adamant that she ‌will not resign before the end of her ⁢term, describing being a senator as her “calling.” Since her return to ⁢the Capitol, she has largely‌ been kept out of public view,‍ only participating in select Hill activities.

Feinstein’s ‍health issues have been a cause for worry among her colleagues. ‌Some have expressed dismay at⁤ her noticeable decline after her return to ⁤the Capitol, with one senator calling it “shocking”‍ to see her in her ‍current condition.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Lindsey ⁤Graham (R-SC), both members⁤ of ‍the‍ Senate Judiciary ⁤Committee, have been closely monitoring⁢ Feinstein’s medical condition.

Despite the ongoing legal battles and⁣ health concerns, Feinstein’s⁣ impact on ⁤the political landscape remains significant. Her story continues to unfold as she navigates these challenges.
