Feinstein Contradicts Herself On Timing Of 2024 Announcement

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Monday night, said that she would soon disclose if she plans to run for re-election next year and not next.

Feinstein, 89, told a reporter for Raw Story only last week that she wouldn’t reveal her 2024 plans until next year. However, Feinstein, 89, contradicted herself on Monday and suggested that an announcement could be made in the next few weeks.

“You’ll be hearing, soon,” Feinstein told Bloomberg News. “In the spring sometime. Not in the winter. I don’t announce in the winter.”

Though Feinstein’s future remains uncertain, the whiff of a potential vacancy in a reliably blue state has Democrats in a frenzy.

Rep. Katie Porter (D.CA), 49, announced publicly that she would run for Senate earlier in the month. Rep. Adam Schiff, 62 (D.CA), has also declared his intention to run. MSNBC reports that Porter spoke to Feinstein privately prior to her announcement. Schiff, however, has publicly stated that Feinstein was aware that Porter planned to run.

“I want to make sure that everything I did was respectful of her and that I did so with her knowledge and her blessing,” Schiff told The Associated Press.

According to reports, Rep. Barbara Lee (D–CA), who is also from Northern California, told members of Congress Black Caucus she would also declare that candidacy.
