Feds charge 12 people in $10 million California childcare fraud scheme
Federal prosecutors have charged 12 individuals in Southern California with fraudulently collecting over $10 million from government-funded childcare programs. These individuals, who are naturalized citizens from countries including Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan, and Iraq, are accused of caring for few or no children at thier licensed daycare facilities. Authorities arrested the suspects and searched multiple homes in the San Diego area believed to be operating as unlicensed daycares.

The Department of Justice announced the charges Tuesday after authorities arrested 12 defendants and executed search warrants at a dozen San Diego-area homes purportedly operating as daycare facilities. The individuals are naturalized citizens who hail from Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
