FBI Raids Chinese “Police Station” in NYC

The FBI raided a suspected outpost of Chinese police tucked away in New York City’s Chinatown last fall, seizing materials from one of the secretive operations for the first time known to the public, anonymous sources revealed to The New York Times.

The office was one of many nodes in a network that includes Chinese police outposts all over the globe. This is a method for China to spy and monitor its citizens abroad.

According to the Times, the Chinatown outpost was located on the third floor in a six-story office building that faces a busy street. The FBI counterintelligence agents who were conducting a criminal investigation for the Eastern District of New York raided it.

Martin Feely, an FBI spokesperson, stated that the agency has been in contact with American Military News. “no comment or guidance to provide” The raid was reported.

There have been at least 102 of these outposts documented In 53 countries, the recent months by human rights group Safeguard Defenders. Christopher Wray, FBI Director said in November that he’s “very concerned” He spoke about the outposts, whom he called “police stations.”

The Chinese Embassy stated “there is no need to make people nervous” about the so-called outposts, which it said are staffed by volunteers helping Chinese nationals with routine tasks like renewing their Chinese driver’s licenses, the Times reported.

According to the Times, a list of police outposts listed the addresses of Chinese restaurants. The Times reported that police outposts were established in Japan, Italy France, Germany, Britain, Hungary, Hungary, and the Czech Republic by at least four areas of China.
