FBI agents lose clearance before testifying to Congress.

FBI Revokes Security Clearances of Agents Involved in Capitol Riot

The FBI has taken action against three of its agents for their involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The agency informed lawmakers in a letter on Wednesday that the security clearances of Marcus Allen, Stephen Friend, and Brett Gloss have been revoked. The agents have also been suspended pending review of their cases.

Allegiance to the United States Questioned

The actions of the agents reportedly raised concerns about their “allegiance to the United States,” according to the letter obtained by the New York Times. The letter was submitted a day before two of the agents were set to testify in front of the House Judiciary subcommittee investigating the “weaponization” of the federal government.

Details of the Agents’ Involvement

Gloss had his security clearance revoked two weeks ago for allegedly being in a restricted area of the Capitol grounds on the day of the attack, lying about being in a restricted area, and giving false or misleading information about what he saw. The letter stated that Gloss’s refusal to provide truthful answers should result in an adverse clearance action.

Allen had his top-secret security clearance revoked after expressing sympathy for persons or organizations that advocate, threaten, or use force or violence. He allegedly sent emails from his work account to warn colleagues to be careful with investigative inquiries or leads related to the riot. Allen also failed to provide relevant information to other agents investigating the riot about people who allegedly took part in the attack.

Friend had his clearance revoked on Tuesday for refusing to take part in a SWAT raid at the home of a protester last summer, arguing it was an excessive use of force. He also downloaded documents from an FBI computer system to a removable flash drive last September, but it is unclear what the documents were.

Conclusion

The FBI’s actions against these agents demonstrate the agency’s commitment to upholding the law and maintaining the trust of the American people. It is important that those who are entrusted with protecting our nation are held to the highest standards of integrity and loyalty.
