Fauci cautions about ‘confusing’ mask studies.
People are being misled about the effectiveness of face masks against COVID, says Dr. Anthony Fauci.
During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Jonathan Karl asked Fauci about the efficacy of masks. Karl referred to a recent study suggesting that masks were not effective in containing the pandemic. Fauci acknowledged that some studies can be confusing and mentioned an analysis by The Cochrane Institute that raised doubts about the effectiveness of masks in stopping the spread of respiratory viruses like COVID.
The study led to headlines claiming that masks made little to no difference in preventing COVID transmission. However, Karla Soares-Weiser, editor-in-chief of the Cochrane Library, responded with a statement clarifying that it was an inaccurate interpretation to conclude that masks don’t work.

Fauci emphasized that the Cochrane study can be misleading and that there are numerous studies showing that masks do work. He cautioned against drawing conclusions solely from a meta-analysis that includes studies not specifically focused on COVID. Fauci stressed the importance of considering the overall body of evidence that supports the effectiveness of masks.
Fauci, now a faculty member at Georgetown University, previously served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and as the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden. He faced criticism for initially advising against mask-wearing before changing his stance based on new data.
Fauci admits that masks don’t work for the public at large but still absurdly claims masks work on an individual basis. More subterfuge. pic.twitter.com/UcjOa8flkr

In a recent CNN interview, Fauci reiterated that many studies show masks protect individuals rather than the entire population. Senator Rand Paul, one of Fauci’s critics, responded by stating that Fauci admits masks don’t work for the public at large but still claims they work on an individual basis.
