Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis‘s Democratic primary opponent slammed her for skipping a debate over the weekend after she reportedly attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

Christian Wise Smith, the only primary challenger to the embattled district attorney, said in a statement to Fox News that he would be in favor of scheduling a debate to better fit her schedule.

“There is no reason we can’t reschedule the debate,” Wise Smith said on Monday. “We are happy to work with her team to do it.”

Wise Smith’s campaign communications director Michael Ceraso also said that Willis not attending the debate shows “where her allegiances lie.”

“I have enormous respect for Willis’s busy calendar, but ignoring a community-organized event while violent crime escalates, to schmooze with politicos while an ‘SNL’ comedian roasts the entire political process, tells me where her allegiances lie — and it’s not with the voters of Fulton County,” Ceraso said.

Wise Smith debated an empty podium on Sunday and called out Willis for not attending the debate ahead of the May 21 primary.

“My question for you is: Where are you? You know I’m here because I care about the citizens and the families of Fulton County,” Wise Smith said at the debate. “But it’s my understanding that you may have attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”

“You might be fundraising across the country, but what about us here in Fulton County? What are you doing to address the issues in the jail? What are you doing to address the backlog? Where are you, Ms. Willis?” he added.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Fulton County district attorney’s office for comment.
