FACT CHECK: Is Guitarist Carlos Santana ‘Expected To Pass’ After Suffering A Stroke?

An image shared on Facebook claims guitarist Carlos Santana is expected to die after suffering a severe stroke.

Although Santana suffered a stroke in July, he has since recovered. There is no evidence to suggest that he is “expected to pass” or has suffered another stroke.

Santana canceled several of his shows in July after the 74-year-old musician was “over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration” while performing in Michigan July 5, according to a statement from his team. A post shared on Facebook more than 420 times claims he is not expected to survive the medical emergency.

“CARLOS SANTANA is in the hospital,” reads the Aug. 9 post. “He has had a bad stroke and is expected to pass. PRAYERS FOR CARLOS! Man, such bad news.”

This claim is baseless. While Santana suffered what Express described as a “heat stroke” during the July 5 concert in Michigan, he was reportedly doing “well” shortly after the incident, according to a July 6 statement from his team. Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to suggest he has suffered any additional ailments or is “expected to pass,” as the Facebook post suggests.

“REALLY REALLY FAKE NEWS … he’s on tour performing,” said Michael Jensen, a representative for Santana, in an email to Check Your Fact. (RELATED: No, Tom Holland Did Not Die In A Freak Accident)

Santana recently appeared at Ruoff Music Center in Indiana for a make-up show Aug. 3, according to Nuvo.com. Photographer Mark Sheldon shared a picture of the musician from the show on his social media page in which he appears healthy.
