Former US Attorney Raises Concerns About DOJ’s Internal Policy Violations

A Former U.S. Attorney Accuses DOJ of Violating Internal Policies in Hunter Biden Plea Deal

A former U.S. attorney has called out the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly disregarding its own internal policies in reaching a plea deal with Hunter Biden on tax crime and gun charges.

The accusations were made by former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman, who took to Twitter to express his concerns. He pointed out that the DOJ is supposed to charge the “highest provable offense” and seek consistent sentences with other cases brought by the department, as outlined in the Ashcroft Memo. However, Tolman believes that the DOJ is deviating from this policy in Hunter Biden’s case.

Tolman described the prosecution as a “laughable joke” and accused officials of ignoring policy and precedent. He argued that if the DOJ followed its own rules, Hunter Biden would be facing a minimum of 5 years in federal prison. However, Tolman believes that political connections are influencing the outcome of the case.

Tolman went on to criticize the move as “shocking” and highlighted the lack of consistency and fairness in the DOJ’s approach to prosecuting cases. He emphasized the need for accountability and transparency to prevent such injustices.

The Epoch Times has reached out to the DOJ for comment.

Attorney General Garland Distances Himself from the Investigation

When asked about the case, Attorney General Merrick Garland appeared to distance himself from the investigation. He stated that he would leave the matter in the hands of the United States attorney serving Delaware, David Weiss.

It has been confirmed that Hunter Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses as part of a public agreement. The agreement also includes the avoidance of prosecution on a felony charge of illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user, as long as he complies with the agreed-upon conditions.

President Biden expressed his support for his son, stating, “I’m very proud of my son.” The White House counsel’s office also released a statement affirming the president and First Lady’s love and support for Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden is expected to plead guilty to failing to pay over $100,000 in taxes on income exceeding $1.5 million in both 2017 and 2018. The charges carry a maximum penalty of one year in prison. It has been reported that the back taxes have already been paid.

The gun charge against Hunter Biden alleges that he possessed a handgun, knowing he was a drug user, for 11 days in October 2018. This count carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison. However, the Justice Department has indicated that a pretrial agreement has been reached, suggesting that the case will be wiped from his record if he adheres to the agreed-upon conditions.
