Ex-Twitter Employees Not Happy With Mass Firings

On Friday, now-former Twitter employees took to the social media platform to document their firing as new owner Elon Musk clears house.

Layoffs appear to cover a wide range of departments, with those in engineering, human resources, policy, content moderation, and more chiming in about their new unemployed status.

Employees wrote of their job status in the hashtags “Love Where You Worked” and “One Team,” calling it “dehumanizing,” and calling out Elon Musk for the action.

Others vowed to take legal action against the social media company for being laid off.

Some former Twitter employees and others sympathetic towards their sudden job loss noted California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which requires a 60-day notice from employers before a mass layoff or relocation. The Act requires notice of a layoff in advance if more than 50 percent of the workforce is laid off.

It was revealed on Thursday that Musk would be laying off many of the nearly 7,500 staff members. A letter stated that employees were to go home and not return to the office on Friday as cuts proceeded. The total number of layoffs was not included in that letter.

Other Twitter users celebrated the layoffs, with some noting that the entire process of Musk buying Twitter began earlier this year with the Babylon Bee making a joke about United States Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, and others noting how people who were fired for violating vaccine mandates were not given the same sympathy as those who have been removed from Twitter.
