In a daring heist last year, Russian agents managed to steal a staggering $5 million worth of John Deere tractors in Ukraine. However, their plans were ultimately thwarted when remote operators took control of the situation using cutting-edge American-made Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Concerns Over Chinese Digital Technology Firms
While the successful intervention in the tractor theft is commendable, there are growing concerns among lawmakers. Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Calif.) are raising alarm bells about digital technology firms that are either controlled by the People’s Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
These lawmakers fear that these Chinese entities may already be developing advanced technologies that could pose a threat to national security.
