Elon Musk restricts daily tweet consumption.

Twitter Implements Temporary Limits on Daily Tweet Reading

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, made an exciting announcement on Saturday regarding the platform’s new limitations on daily tweet reading. These restrictions have been put in place to combat the growing issue of data scraping and system manipulation on Twitter. Interestingly, these limits also apply to replies to users’ tweets, ensuring a more controlled environment.

In a tweet, Musk stated, “Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day. Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day. New unverified accounts to 300/day.” However, he later deleted a tweet that estimated the time it would take an average user to read 6,000 tweets, as it was in response to a specific query.

Data scraping, the process of collecting and aggregating information from websites, has become a concern for social media platforms. Facebook, for instance, filed a lawsuit against two companies in 2020 for scraping sensitive data. Ultimately, a settlement was reached, and both companies are now prohibited from scraping Facebook or Instagram again.

These new limitations have sparked mixed reactions among users. Whistleblower Edward Snowden expressed his frustration, stating, “This broke Twitter for me, making it impossible for me to engage as I have for years.” Streamer Charlie, also known as Moist Critical, saw this as a significant step towards self-destruction, saying, “I couldn’t even imagine a more effective way of killing this app aside from just shutting it down outright.”

Twitter’s Spaces Feature and Recent Campaign Stops

Interestingly, Twitter’s Spaces feature has recently been utilized as an online campaign stop. Governor Ron DeSantis launched his presidential campaign through a Spaces conversation with Musk, while Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was interviewed in a similar manner. This demonstrates the platform’s evolving role in political engagement.

In other news, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey provided an update on his latest project, Nostr, in May. He expressed his desire to collaborate with developers who have a strong background in the field, emphasizing the importance of building something meaningful.
