Elon Musk Says He’d Back Gov. DeSantis in 2024

Elon Musk signaled he would place his support behind Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) should he choose to challenge former President Donald Trump to be the Republican nominee for the White House in 2024.

He made the comment in response to a question from a Twitter user asking if he would vote for DeSantis.

The Tesla and Twitter CEO reminded users that he was a significant supporter of the Obama administration. He said in the thread that he reluctantly voted for President Joe Biden over Trump in 2020 and seemingly regrets it.

“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far,” he said.

Musk first suggested he was leaning toward supporting the Florida governor in June, when he was asked by a Twitter user whom he would likely support in 2024 and responded, “DeSantis.”

He prefaced the comment by saying it was still to be determined whether he would end up voting Republican.

Musk was also questioned about his move to reinstate the accounts of certain users from Twitter, especially Trump, who hasn’t tweeted since his account was restored.

Trump’s account was suspended after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The former president has yet to return to tweeting, saying he prefers to stay on his Truth Social platform.

“I’m fine with Trump not tweeting,” Musk said in response. “The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service.”
