Elon Musk Declares “Cis” and “Cisgender” as Slurs on Twitter
Elon Musk made a bold statement on Wednesday morning, declaring that the words “cis” and “cisgender” will now be considered slurs on Twitter. This announcement came in response to backlash received by James Esses, co-founder of Thoughtful Therapists, after he rejected the word “cis” in a tweet.
Musk, the owner of Twitter, stated that these terms are considered slurs on the platform, but did not specify the consequences for using them.
Repeated, targeted harassment against any account will cause the harassing accounts to receive, at minimum, temporary suspensions.

The term “cisgender” refers to a person whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth, according to Merriam-Webster.com.

The term “cis” is a shortened version of “cisgender.” Unfortunately, both terms have been used derogatorily by some LGBT activists on social media.

Musk has faced controversy regarding speech and gender on his platform before. Jeremy Boreing, co-founder of The Daily Wire, claimed that Twitter canceled a deal to premiere their documentary “What Is a Woman?” due to instances of misgendering. This sparked backlash from conservatives, and Musk later admitted it was a mistake.
