Elon Musk and researchers ask for pause on ‘dangerous race’ to improve AI

Elon Muskand dozens of other technology leaders asked artificial intelligence developers to put a temporary pause on AI training to limit dangers to humanity.

On Wednesday, Musk and the others published an empty email outlining their concerns about AI’s advancements. The tech titans pleaded with AI laboratory to defer preparation for AI systems that are more potent than GPT-4 and OpenAI’s most recent version of the programs for at least six months. Many tech industry soldiers, scientists, and well-known figures, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Pinterest leader Evan Sharp and previous 2020 presidential nominee Andrew Yang, joined Musk.

We may ask ourselves,” Should we let units flood our information channels with advertising and falsehood?” because modern AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general jobs. The notice made a case. Do we manage every job, even the rewarding ones? Should we create human minds that could ultimately outnumber, outsmart, become obsolete, and take our place? May we take the chance of losing control of our society?

The letter stated that” We call on all AI laboratories to immediately wait for at least six months the preparation of AI techniques more powerful than GPT-4″ ” This suspension should be open to the public, credible, and inclusive of all significant players.” Governments should intervene and enact a ban if such an pause may be made promptly.

On March 14, OpenAI unveiled GPT-4, the most recent iteration of its robot. The app also allows for the use of pictures as inputs and provides more complex and quick responses than its predecessor. Additionally, it was included in a number of items, including Bing and Salesforce.

At a February look at the World Government Summit, Musk referred to AI as” one of the biggest danger” to society.
