Comedian Ellen DeGeneres talked about the cancelation of her talk show while on her stand-up comedy tour.

The Ellen show had its final season in 2022. Prior to the last episode, DeGeneres made a public apology following reports from employees that it was a toxic workplace.

Degeneres, 66, began her tour “Ellen’s Last Stand … Up Tour” on Wednesday in Los Angeles, California. She offered the audience an update, claiming she’s taken up gardening and raising chickens since ending her show.

“What else can I tell you? Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business,” Degeneres said. “There’s no mean people in show business.”

At the end of every episode, Degeneres reminded her audience to “be kind.” However, the reports of a toxic workplace turned into animosity for the comedian, which she addressed during her show.

“The hate went on for a long time, and I would try to avoid looking at the news. The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline,” Degeneres said. “For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business … Eventually, they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old, and gay.”

Degeneres was referencing her sitcom Ellen, which while it won her a Primetime Emmy nomination, was ultimately cancelled shortly after she came out publicly as lesbian and her character on the show did the same. Her talk show would go on to win 32 Daytime Emmy awards.

At the moment, Degeneres will keep her tour to the Pacific coast, with the last show slated for July of this year. However, the website promises more dates and locations will be announced.
