Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) blasted Republicans, saying they “bow down to the Great Trump,” after the president canceled the signing of a housing bill

“The Republicans have distinguished themselves as a group by their absolute inability to stand up to Donald Trump,” Warren said on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street on Wednesday. “There has been only one basic move that Republicans in the Senate can make, and that is to bow down to the Great Trump.”

Trump canceled the signing of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act bill on Wednesday, declaring that he would delay the signing until the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote, was passed.

The housing bill is a bipartisan legislative bill designed to tackle America’s housing affordability crisis amid rising home prices, rents, mortgage rates, insurance costs, and tight housing supply in many markets.

“The American people are counting on us to do the hard work of government and that’s what this ROAD to housing bill is all about, we did the hard work. We reached out to mayors all over this country, we put together this bill, good for families everywhere, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats,” Warren said.

Warren criticized Trump for skipping the bill signing ceremony, framing the decision as both political and consequential for Americans struggling with housing costs.

“Donald Trump acts like a petulant child and won’t show up to the ceremony to sign it. You can’t make this stuff up,” Warren said. “We could all laugh, except this is really serious.”

Warren also emphasized the stakes of rising housing and living costs, noting that the legislation was aimed at easing financial pressures on Americans.

“This is serious for the young family that can’t buy a home, the renter who sees his rent going up and doesn’t know how he’s going to cover both health insurance and rent. This is serious business. It is one big effort to lower costs, and Donald Trump doesn’t want to be anywhere near it.”
