Eighteen Dems block Trump impeachment from coming to House floor
Eighteen House Democrats voted with nearly all Republicans to block articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump from being brought to the floor. In a bipartisan vote of 232-147,the House tabled articles introduced by rep. Al Green,who accused Trump of abusing his authority in immigration-related issues. Among the Democrats who supported tabling were Reps. Josh Riley, Jared Golden, Kristen McDonald Rivet, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, and others. The minority of Democrats, totaling 147, voted against tabling, while 46 Democrats and Rep. Thomas Massie chose to vote “present.” House Democratic leaders emphasized that impeachment requires a thorough investigative process, which they contended had not been done, criticizing the Republican majority for focusing solely on advancing Trump’s agenda. Rep. Green had previously attempted to push for a vote on impeachment, notably in June 2025 over Iran-related military actions, but that effort was also blocked. House leadership, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, decided not to push for impeachment before the midterm elections to avoid political distractions.

In a bipartisan 232-147 vote, the House tabled articles of impeachment offered by Rep. Al Green (D-TX), a Trump foe who lost his primary challenge earlier this year. Green’s articles accused Trump of abusing his authority in the handling of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.

Overall, 18 Democrats joined 213 Republicans and Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-CA) in backing a motion to table the articles of impeachment.
The Democrats who voted in favor of tabling were Reps. Josh Riley (D-NY), Jared Golden (D-ME), Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), Shomari Figures (D-AL), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Don Davis (D-NC), Kathy Castor (D-FL), Tom Suozzi (D-NY), Laura Gillen (D-NY), Darren Soto (D-FL), Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), and Rick Larsen (D-WA), among others.
The defectors were in the minority of their conference, however, as 147 House Democrats voted against tabling. Another 46 Democrats and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) voted “present.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and the rest of the Democratic leadership announced they would vote present ahead of time.
“Impeachment is a sacred constitutional vehicle designed to hold a corrupt executive accountable for abuse of power, breaking the law and violating the public trust,” the Democratic leadership wrote in a statement. “The effort traditionally requires a comprehensive investigative process, the collection and review of thousands of documents, an exacting scrutiny of the facts, the examination of dozens of key witnesses, Congressional hearings, sustained public organizing and the marshaling of the forces of democracy to build a broad national consensus.”
“None of that serious work has been done, with the Republican majority focused solely on rubber stamping Donald Trump’s extreme agenda,” they continued.
Tuesday was not the first time Green has tried to force a vote on impeaching Trump. In June 2025, Green tried to force a vote on launching an impeachment inquiry against Trump due to the president’s authorization of the bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran.

That effort was also blocked from coming to the floor, with 128 House Democrats voting with nearly every single Republican to table the measure.
While Republicans have aimed to message that Democrats will impeach Trump on “their first day,” Jeffries and the Democratic leadership have shied away from talk of impeaching the commander in chief ahead of the midterm elections.
