Just a day prior to the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had been celebrating and honoring Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines. However, the joy quickly turned to sorrow as the news of civilian deaths reached him. Zelensky expressed his grief and anger in a video posted on social media, calling for justice and international support.

“Each such manifestation of terror proves over and over again to us and to the whole world that Russia deserves only one thing as a result of everything it has done – defeat and a tribunal, fair and legal trials against all [Russian] murderers and terrorists,” Zelensky said. “And I thank again and again everyone in the world who supports [Ukraine] and helps protect our people!”

Unimaginable Destruction

Haunting images captured in the aftermath of the missile attack depict a scene of utter devastation. Piles of rubble, shattered metal, and broken glass serve as a grim reminder of the horror faced by innocent civilians. The wounded were rushed to ambulances, while witnesses grappled with the harsh reality of the situation.

A Belgian freelance journalist, who had been present at the restaurant just moments before the strike, recounted the harrowing experience. He described hearing people trapped beneath the rubble, their cries for help echoing through the chaos as rescuers worked tirelessly to save them. It is estimated that up to 80 staff members and customers were present at the restaurant during the attack.

Ukraine’s Determined Counteroffensive

Despite the tragedy, President Zelensky remains resolute in Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. He recently announced that Ukrainian forces are making progress “in all directions” as part of their counteroffensive to reclaim lost territory. While significant breakthroughs have yet to be achieved, many believe that Ukraine’s strategic efforts are aimed at identifying vulnerabilities before launching a large-scale attack.

The city of Kramatorsk, located in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, had a population of approximately 150,000 before the war. Today, it stands as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of conflict.
