Drag Queens Lead Gov’t-Funded Junior Drag Camp For Kids As Young As 7 Years Old

As young as seven years old, government-funded Junior Drag summer camp for kids will once again be led by drag artists. The camp, which costs $460 per person, will be conducted by the Carousel Theater for Young People in Vancouver, and is funded by multiple government agencies such as the Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Vancouver, as reported by The Daily Caller.

The program includes a two-week “senior” drag camp for older children between ages 12-17, which costs $900 per person, and a “Junior Drag Camp” for kids aged 7-11.

According to the event’s promotional material, participants can learn how to release their inner confidence, showcase their true selves, and perhaps even channel their inner diva. In addition, they will be provided with a Drag Makeup Starter Kit, as all students will receive one. Parents are encouraged to see the value of drag for their kids.

One portion of the site’s information indicates that parents might want to know if drag is suitable for children. The site states that drag is for everyone.

“Parents, ask yourself, what’s the difference between what you wear at home versus what you wear at work? You’re doing drag honey, you just don’t know it!”

Last spring, a show called “Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls” was promoted on the site, aimed at children who were as young as seven years old. The show tells the story of a nine-year-old girl called Fiona who replaces her feminine name to “Fin” with “he/him” pronouns, according to the summary.

Parents have been voicing their concerns about such programs and are calling on the government to address the matter.
