Mastriano won’t run for US Senate.

Pennsylvania Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano Decides Not to Run for U.S. Senate

Pennsylvania Republican state Sen. Doug Mastriano announced that he will not be running for the U.S. Senate.

In a 37-minute Facebook Live broadcast alongside his wife, captioned “What’s Next: The way forward,” Mastriano talked about the adversity he has faced, and he thanked his supporters for the progress his “movement” has made. Despite this, the former gubernatorial candidate said that he believes he can best serve the people in Harrisburg rather than in Washington.

Mastriano pointed to the fact that former President Abraham Lincoln had lost four elections prior to his success, drawing parallels with his own situation. He claimed that during his gubernatorial run, he drew record-breaking crowds, while his opponent Josh Shapiro “couldn’t draw flies.”

The state senator said that he would continue to play a major role in Pennsylvania politics and that the support of his “Walk as Free People” movement was required for any Republican hoping to win a primary or general election. The state senator and his wife said that their movement wasn’t going anywhere and would continue to grow. They announced the creation of the “Freedom Conference,” a political/educational meeting that will be held annually.

Mastriano, calling on his experience in the gubernatorial race in which he claimed he was “abandoned” by the Pennsylvania Republican Party, pledged to support whoever wins the Republican nomination.

Mastriano lost his bid for Pennsylvania governor last year by roughly 14 points.

Mastriano’s Movement Continues to Grow

“At this time, we have decided not to run for the U.S. Senate but to continue to serve in Harrisburg,” Mastriano said. “I know for some it’ll be disappointing.”

“At this time, at this moment, the way things currently are, I am not running for the U.S. Senate seat,” he clarified.
