Chris Christie and Mika Brzezinski clash over abortion.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Clashes with MSNBC Host Mika Brzezinski Over Abortion
In a fiery exchange on the set of “Morning Joe,” former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski engaged in a heated argument about abortion, specifically late-term abortion. The clash between the two escalated to the point where they scolded each other, with Christie warning Brzezinski, “Don’t mess with me!”
During the broadcast, Brzezinski brought up the topic of abortion, referencing the previous night’s Republican presidential primary debate. She accused Christie of being “dishonest” about the issue, particularly regarding abortion in the ninth month.

“Another issue that you talked about last night was abortion. You and I disagree on this issue,” Brzezinski began. ”But the one thing you keep saying is, you keep talking about abortion in the ninth month, which is allowed in your state. And the last time I asked you to bring me the case where a woman walked into a doctor’s office in the ninth month and said, ‘I’ve decided I don’t want to have a baby, please take this out.’ It doesn’t happen. Less than 1 percent of abortions are performed after 21 weeks.”
Brzezinski argued that the majority of late-term abortions occur due to medical emergencies, and Christie initially seemed to agree. However, the tension escalated when she suggested that he had made a false statement.
“I just think, of all the candidates, you’ve been the most honest about Trump and election integrity, but in this one respect, I have to call you out because you’re not being honest on the issue. We can debate abortion, but there isn’t abortion in the ninth month,” Brzezinski claimed.
Christie fired back, defending his position: “Mika, you’re the one who’s not being honest. I did not say there was abortion in the ninth month. What I said was that the law in New Jersey and other states permits it. And you can’t deny that that’s the truth because it is. So, look, you know, don’t call somebody a liar–”
“It doesn’t happen, Chris,” Brzezinski interrupted.
Christie continued to argue that he had merely stated the legality of late-term abortion, not its frequency. He emphasized that the law permits it, but he never claimed that women were having abortions in the ninth month.

“I’m not calling you a liar,” Brzezinski insisted. “It’s not honest.”
The back-and-forth continued until Christie finally asked, “Does the law permit it in those states? Well, that’s all I said. So I don’t understand what your problem is with that. In the end, if that’s what the law permits, that’s what the people who passed those laws said is OK, is legally permissible. That’s the point I’m making.”
“Chris, you’re painting a picture about the issue of abortion that is not honest. And this is a health issue for women,” Brzezinski argued. “There are women who are in extreme situations who need healthcare, and they should get it. We can debate that… But there are not women in the state of New Jersey trouncing into doctor’s offices asking for abortions in the ninth month. It doesn’t happen.”
“And by the way, you could continue to set up that straw man for yourself to knock it down because you’re mischaracterizing what I said. I am giving you the state of the law. And the state of the law in those states is that you could go into a doctor’s office and do it. And that’s all I said,” Christie reiterated.
Christie continued to emphasize that he had only described the law as it was written, not how it was being applied. He challenged Brzezinski to point out what he had said that was dishonest.
“Don’t mess with me on the law, Mika. I know that,” Christie warned.
“Yes, don’t mess with me on how women feel about using the ninth month argument on the issue of abortion,” Brzezinski responded.
In what ways do opponents of late-term abortion argue that it is a form of infanticide?
W does allow for abortion in the ninth month and that it is important to acknowledge that fact. The two continued to exchange heated remarks, with Christie cautioning Brzezinski not to “mess with” him on matters of law.
The clash between Christie and Brzezinski highlights the ongoing and deeply divisive debate surrounding abortion. Late-term abortion, in particular, has been a contentious topic, with passionate arguments on both sides. Those in favor of late-term abortion argue that it is necessary in cases of severe fetal anomalies or when the life or health of the mother is at risk. On the other hand, opponents of late-term abortion argue that it is a form of infanticide and that restrictions should be placed on its availability.
Christie has been vocal about his stance on abortion and has previously expressed his opposition to late-term abortions. During his time as New Jersey Governor, he vetoed a bill that would have expanded access to late-term abortions. He has consistently advocated for stricter regulations and limitations on abortion.
Brzezinski, on the other hand, has been critical of Christie’s stance on abortion and accused him of being dishonest about the availability and frequency of late-term abortions. She challenged him to provide evidence of a woman seeking an abortion in the ninth month, suggesting that such cases are exceptionally rare.
The clash between Christie and Brzezinski underscores the deep ideological divide regarding the issue of abortion. It reflects the broader national debate and the challenges lawmakers face in finding consensus on this controversial topic. As the issue continues to generate intense emotions and political rhetoric, it remains to be seen how the debate will evolve and whether any common ground can be reached.
In conclusion, the fiery exchange between former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski over abortion, specifically late-term abortion, highlights the ongoing and contentious debate surrounding this issue. Both sides passionately argue their positions, with Christie defending the legality of late-term abortion in certain states, while Brzezinski challenges the prevalence of such procedures. The clash between the two highlights the deep ideological divide and the challenges faced in finding a resolution to this complex and emotionally charged issue.
