Judge Sets First Court Date for Former President Trump’s Classified Documents Trial

Judge Aileen Cannon has officially scheduled the first court date for the highly anticipated trial involving former President Donald Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents. The trial will take place in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, starting on August 14, 2023.

In a recent court filing, Judge Cannon also outlined the important deadlines leading up to the trial. Both parties involved must submit their pre-trial motions and motions in limine, which are motions made at the beginning of a trial to exclude certain evidence, by July 24, 2023.

Last week, Trump appeared in federal court in Miami, Florida, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. These charges include 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, as well as counts related to conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and concealing documents.

It is worth noting that Trump is the first current or former president to face federal indictment. In addition to the charges in Florida, he has also been indicted on state charges in Manhattan and is currently under investigation for his alleged involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
