Donald Trump indictment: NYPD told to show up in ‘full uniform’ after grand jury report

All officers with the New York Police Department were given instructions to show up, fully uniformed at 7 a.m on Friday following the grand jury report that indicted former President Donald Trump, on Thursday.

The Manhattan grand jury determined that there was enough evidence to charge Trump for the cover-up of hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels in the year 2016.

The department even instructed detectives who typically dress in plain clothes to come adorned in their full uniform, as the city prepares for unrest. Additionally, more law enforcement officials will patrol the entire city in all five boroughs, even though no credible threats had been identified.

“The department remains ready and available to respond to protests and counter protests,” stated the NYPD in a statement to the Wall Street Journal. Also, the department affirmed that it is working with federal and state officials to ensure safety protocols.

Earlier this month, Trump had called on his supporters to stage protests on the streets of New York in the event of his arrest. For assessing safety preparations officials from the city and the law enforcement sector have been meeting for several weeks now.

Discussions between the NYPD and the FBI have focused on probable threats to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his staff following criminal charges against Trump. Other topics discussed include courthouse security and the possibility of protests outside the courthouse. Previously, barricades were also installed around the New York courthouse where the grand jury spent several months listening to testimony surrounding the Daniels investigation.

The police department has announced that it will respect the First Amendment rights of the public, but won’t tolerate property damage or violence. It also served a “gentle reminder” that firearms aren’t permitted in courthouses and other government buildings.
