Donald Trump’s popularity wanes after federal indictment; arrested.

Former President Donald Trump’s Popularity Declines Following Federal Indictment

According to a new poll released on Tuesday by the CNN/SSRS Opinion Panel, the popular support for former President Donald Trump has significantly faded since his federal indictment. The survey revealed that only 33% of respondents had a favorable opinion of Trump, while a majority of 59% viewed him unfavorably. The remaining 8% of adults stated that they had no opinion of the former president.

Trump’s Support Among Republicans

Despite the decline in his overall popularity, Trump still maintains a strong following among registered Republicans and Republican-leaning voters. The poll showed that 47% of these voters expressed their support for Trump when compared to other potential candidates for the 2024 GOP presidential election. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) came in second place with a 26% approval rating. The rest of the candidates received single-digit approval ratings, as indicated by the survey results. It is worth noting that the first GOP presidential debate is scheduled for August 23, just nine days after Trump’s first court date for his classified documents trial.

Opinions on Trump’s Conduct

The poll also revealed a nearly equal division among respondents regarding their opinions on Trump’s conduct. Fifty-four percent of those surveyed believed that his behavior did not matter as long as he was an effective leader. On the other hand, 46% of respondents valued character over effectiveness and believed that Trump’s behavior did matter in the long run.

The survey was conducted from June 13 to June 17 and included 1,350 respondents. The margin of error for the poll was 3.4 percentage points.
