Dodgers apologize and re-invite ‘Queer and Trans Nuns’ group.

Los Angeles Dodgers Reinvite Drag Troupe to Pride Night After Apology

The Los Angeles Dodgers have apologized for disinviting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence from their annual Pride Night celebration at a home game in June. The Major League Baseball (MLB) team had initially withdrawn the invitation following complaints from Catholic organizations that the drag troupe of “queer and trans nuns” was an insult to their faith. However, the Dodgers have now asked the group to take their place on the field and receive a Community Hero Award. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence use humor and irreverent wit to promote human rights and diversity.

Apology Follows “Honest Conversations”

The Dodgers’ apology followed “much thoughtful feedback from our diverse communities, honest conversations within the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and generous discussions with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” according to a statement. The team added that it was “pleased to share that they have agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades.”

LA Pride and LGBT Center Protested Disinvitation

LA Pride and the Los Angeles LGBT Center had both declared they would boycott Pride Night in protest at the disinvitation of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken invited the group to join her for a Pride Night being held by the Anaheim Angels. The Dodgers said they would work with their LGBTQ+ partners to “better educate ourselves, find ways to strengthen the ties that bind and use our platform to support all of our fans who make up the diversity of the Dodgers family.”
