DNC official takes gloves off on party, blasts ‘$1 billion disaster’ campaign

A top Democratic surrogate blasted Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign and the Democratic Party on Saturday, labeling her campaign a “$1 billion disaster.”

In an interview on Fox News, DNC Finance Committee member Lindy Li expressed frustration with the party and also dove into President Joe Biden’s decision to step down less than four months before Election Day.

“The truth is this is just an epic disaster, this is a $1 billion disaster,” she said. “They’re $20 million or $18 million in debt. It’s incredible, and I raised millions of that. I have friends I have to be accountable to and to explain what happened because I told them it was a margin of error race.”

Li said she was “misled” by the party’s confidence that they would win.

“I was promised, Jen O’Malley Dillon promised all of us that Harris would win,” she said. “She even put videos out saying that Harris would win. I believed her, my donors believed her, and so they wrote massive checks. I feel like a lot of us were misled.”

Li’s comments come after Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), a major source of influence within the Democratic Party, lamented the fact that Biden didn’t step down sooner to allow for an open primary, which Harris may have been able to triumph in.

“Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race,” Pelosi said. “The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.”

Li also touched on Pelosi’s grievances, saying Biden’s decision to endorse Harris was “like a big f-you to the party.”

“I actually think President Biden, the whole endorsing her 30 minutes after he dropped out, I think that was a big f-you to the party,” she said. “‘You don’t want me, here’s somebody that you may not like. But deal with it,’” Li said.

Biden dropped out in July following a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump and endorsed Harris. The party then coalesced around her without any real primary.

Harris rapidly raised millions throughout her campaign before shelling it out to gain votes across the swing states.

Her effort ultimately failed as Trump won the popular vote and is on track to win in every swing state despite being vastly outspent by Democrats.
