DLCC expands Texas targets as Talarico’s rise inspires Democrats
national Democrats, through teh DLCC,are expanding their effort to flip Texas state House seats for the first time since 2020. The group says it is adding about a dozen targeted districts-beyond the three it already backed-aiming to grow Democratic influence in a state dominated by Republicans at the top and in both legislative chambers.
DLCC President heather Williams framed the push as a way to counter an aggressive Texas GOP slate and to help defeat Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton while supporting candidates connected to the tight texas Senate race involving James Talarico. The DLCC highlighted specific House targets across Texas, including Districts 108 and 112 in the Houston area, District 121 and District 118 near san Antonio, and several seats in South and North Texas such as District 34, District 37, and also more challenging-to-win districts 61, 67, and 94, which are held by GOP incumbents with larger winning margins.
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee on Wednesday revealed it is expanding its target list of seats to flip in Texas’s Legislature.
The DLCC, which operates as the Democratic Party’s campaign arm aiming to boost its presence in state legislatures across the country, announced it is adding a dozen more seats in the Texas state House to its list, in addition to the three districts it was already backing. The development comes as Democrats believe momentum is growing in their bid to grow their presence in the deep-red Lone Star state, in part due to state Rep. James Talarico’s performance in one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races.
