Did AG Garland Perjure Himself Over FBI’s Targeting of Catholic Churches?

Recently, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government revealed that the FBI had attempted to plant informants inside a number of Catholic congregations. The subcommittee released a statement on Monday afternoon, stating that “From this limited production, it is apparent that the FBI, relying on information derived from at least one undercover employee, sought to use local religious organizations as ‘new avenues for tripwire and source development’.” The FBI’s proposal to develop sources in Catholic churches was reviewed and approved by two senior intelligence analysts and the local Chief Division Counsel. The FBI allegedly distributed this document to field offices across the country.

However, when Attorney General Merrick Garland was questioned about this matter in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee a few weeks ago, he claimed that the FBI and Department of Justice were not engaging in this practice. Under questioning from Republican Senator Josh Hawley, Garland stated that “Our department protects all religions, all ideologies. It does not have any bias against any religion of any kind”.

Some are questioning whether Garland perjured himself or if he does not have control over the FBI, which falls under his jurisdiction.
