Dick Durbin to endorse Paul Vallas in heated Chicago Mayoral Race

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) will endorse Paul Vallas in the heated contest for Chicago mayor in a boost for the moderate Democrat, according to Vallas’s campaign.

The conflict between Vallas, the former CEO of Chicago Public Schools, and his more democratic competition, Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson, loomed heavily in Durbin’s favor. The second may be presented at the Greek Independence Day Parade in the afternoon, according to Vallas’ system, which announced it on Sunday.

BRANDON JOHNSON IS ENDORSED BY BERNIE SANDERS IN THE CHICAGO MAYORAL RACE

The Fraternal Order of Police, representatives of the pro-police town council, and other organizations have all given Vallas their support. He has positioned himself as the applicant for law and order and adopted more liberal stances on a variety of problems.

Polls have predicted that the race will be neck-and-neck, but they mostly seem to express Vallas to have a slight advantage over Johnson, who has the support of democratic stars like Sens. Elizabeth Warren( D-MA ) and Bernie Sanders( I-VT ). After no member won an outright majority in the Feb. 28 vote, both candidates are running in a square off on April 4.

One of Illinois’ most well-known officials, Durbin, did not participate in the first round of the president’s competition. Additionally, he declined to support ongoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot in the 2019 election, which she won after losing the first round of candidacy last month, making her the city’s first loss since 1989.

The other senator from the Land of Lincoln, Sen. Tammy Duckworth( D-IL ), has not supported a candidate. Illinois representatives Jonathan Jackson, Delia Ramirez, Danny Davis, and Jan Schakowsky have entirely supported Johnson in the meantime.

Following Lightfoot’s fight last month, some Democrats redoubled their efforts to fight crime in advance of the 2024 elections.
