DeSantis cautions House GOP against exploiting Biden impeachment inquiry
Gov. Ron DeSantis Warns House Republicans: Don’t Let Impeachment Inquiry Derail Important Issues
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has issued a strong warning to House Republicans, urging them not to let the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden become a “trojan horse” that distracts them from addressing crucial concerns of the voters.
In an interview with NBC News’s Meet the Press, DeSantis expressed his belief that investigating the “corrupt” Biden family is warranted. However, he cautioned that House Republicans leading the inquiry run the risk of conducting an investigation that ultimately leads nowhere.
DeSantis emphasized that while Republican voters in Iowa may have reservations about Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s financial dealings, their primary concerns lie with issues such as border security and the economy.
“Make sure you’re not ignoring all these other issues,” DeSantis urged. “And don’t use that inquiry as kind of a Trojan horse to not then meet your responsibilities on all these other things.”
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) initially stated that an impeachment inquiry would require a floor vote, not a unilateral declaration. However, on September 12, McCarthy announced that the House would proceed with an impeachment inquiry into Biden without a formal vote.
The impeachment inquiry hearings, led by the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees, began in late September. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) recently informed House GOP members that a vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry into the president is likely to take place within the next few weeks.
