DeSantis Unveils New Action Against Disney After Old Board’s 11th Hour Deal

Republican governor of Florida Ron DeSantis announced on Monday that a bill to reverse an unofficial last-minute agreement made with Disney with the company just prior to the start of the new state-controlled board’s’s takeover was being introduced by the state legislature.

On February 9, the Florida House passed legislation renaming the Reedy Creek Improvement District to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, removing Disney’s’s self-appointed table and replacing it with a committee chosen by the government. The former board also signed an agreement to send its power to Disney. This agreement was recorded with the Orange County Comptroller on February 9.

During a press conference, DeSantis stated that” They ] Disney ] are not superior to the laws that are enacted by the state of Florida.” They believed they had draft a development contract that may nullify all of our actions. That’s’s not going to fly, and it won’t work.

In order to ensure that the legislation revokes the agreement and that” the people’s’s will is established and is upheld ,” the governor stated that he has met with leaders in the Republican-controlled House and Senate.

DeSantis claimed that Florida voters made it clear through the state’s’s most recent elections that they did not want” one corporation serving as its own government” while everyone else had to abide by a different set of rules.

Whatever justification there may have been for doing that 60 years ago,” clearly, now that we’re’re in a much different era as states, we have many competitors who are treated differently, as well as many businesses and individuals ,” DeSantis said. ” That is not what we want to do.” Disney should be subject to the same laws as everyone else, we want to make certain.
