DeSantis criticizes Trump’s Congress members, exchanges jabs with Team Trump.
Republican Candidate Ron DeSantis Challenges Blind Support for Trump
Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has taken a bold stance against Republican politicians who unquestioningly support former President Donald Trump. DeSantis argues that conservative leaders should not be “listless vessels” who blindly follow Trump’s every word, but rather should be guided by principle and focused on serving the American people.
The controversy began when DeSantis sat down with the editor-in-chief of the Florida Standard, Will Witt, who asked him about accusations from the Trump camp that he is a “RINO” (Republican In Name Only). DeSantis responded by highlighting a troubling trend within the party, where supporting Trump has become the litmus test for conservatism, regardless of one’s actual beliefs or record of achievement.
DeSantis pointed out that there are politicians who claim to be strong Trump supporters, yet have liberal records that are far from conservative. On the other hand, there are individuals like Congressman Chip Roy and Congressman Thomas Massie, who have consistently fought against the swamp and endorsed DeSantis, but are unfairly labeled as RINOs by some within the party.
DeSantis emphasized that a movement cannot be solely centered around the personality of one individual. It must be rooted in principle and focused on achieving the best outcomes for the American people. He warned against becoming “listless vessels” that mindlessly follow whatever is said on social media, emphasizing the need for a durable movement based on substance and principle.

The Trump campaign and some of Trump’s congressional supporters responded to DeSantis’ remarks by claiming that his “listless vessels” comment was directed at all those who support or voted for the former president. They criticized DeSantis for putting down a significant portion of the electorate.
DeSantis’ press secretary, Bryan Griffin, defended the candidate, stating that the media was distorting the facts. Griffin argued that it is Trump and some congressional endorsers who are the “listless vessels,” expecting voters’ support without earning their trust. DeSantis, on the other hand, believes in earning the trust of the American people and has a clear vision, plan, and record to reverse the decline of the country.
