Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis is back on the presidential campaign trail after successfully managing the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia.
Mr. DeSantis temporarily paused his campaign on Aug. 27 to focus on preparing his state for the hurricane’s arrival. He canceled a Town Hall in South Carolina and had his wife attend an event on his behalf.

On Sept. 5, his campaign announced his return to the fight for the Republican nomination.
Mr. DeSantis has a busy schedule ahead, including appearances on Newsmax’s The Balance, radio interviews in New Hampshire and Iowa, and television interviews with local news stations in those states. He will also be featured on Fox News with Jesse Waters.
Additionally, he plans to join America’s Newsroom on Fox News and spend 9/11 with families of victims in New York City.
The governor’s campaign did not provide further comment.
Hurricane Idalia struck Florida’s Big Bend Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm on Aug. 30, causing significant damage.
The governor’s proactive response and immediate actions received praise from national media outlets.
Republican Candidates Ignore Storm
Meanwhile, other Republican candidates focused on their campaigns and topics unrelated to the hurricane. Former President Donald Trump was the only candidate to comment on Mr. DeSantis’ response directly.
Despite the criticism, Mr. DeSantis remained focused on serving the people of Florida and working with the federal government.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of those affected by the hurricane over political calculations.
While Mr. DeSantis still trails behind Mr. Trump in the polls, he is determined to continue his campaign.
Florida’s recovery efforts have been successful, with power being restored to nearly all affected accounts and transportation infrastructure being reopened.
Restoring normalcy to the lives of impacted Floridians remains a top priority for the governor.
