DeSantis-linked PAC takes aim at Disney and Bud Light in fresh ad.

A Super PAC Takes on “Woke” Companies in New Ad

A super PAC aligned with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has launched a powerful ad campaign targeting major corporations like Disney, Bud Light, and Target. This move signals DeSantis’s intention to use culture wars as a key strategy in his bid for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

The ad, titled “Once Upon a Time,” is a 30-second spot that criticizes the “woke ideology” of these companies. It will be aired in Iowa and South Carolina, two crucial states for DeSantis’s campaign.

“Once upon a time, Disney films were for kids, not secret sexual content,” the narrator begins.

“Target and Bud Light didn’t sell extreme liberal agendas, and schools taught the ABCs, not CRT,” the narrator continues, referring to critical race theory. “This isn’t a fairy tale. It’s a nightmare. But one man stood up: Ron DeSantis.”

The feud between DeSantis and Disney started when the company criticized his efforts to restrict discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms. The conflict has escalated to the point of lawsuits between the two parties.

Bud Light also found itself in the midst of the culture wars when it partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, drawing backlash from conservatives. Similarly, Target faced criticism from the Right for its Pride month-themed collection supporting the LGBT community.

This ad is the second release from Never Back Down, DeSantis’s super PAC, that does not mention former President Donald Trump. The previous ad, titled “Punching Back,” was released shortly after Trump faced a 37-count indictment from the Department of Justice.

DeSantis has been navigating how to address Trump’s legal troubles while maintaining support from the GOP base. Despite the indictment, Trump’s popularity among Republican primary voters has remained relatively stable, posing a challenge for DeSantis and other 2024 candidates.

Meanwhile, DeSantis has been actively targeting “wokeness” on the campaign trail, embracing his image as a strong conservative leader who will prioritize Republican values if elected as president.
