DeSantis slips to 3rd in crucial GOP primary state, unexpected candidate surges ahead of governor.

A New Poll in Ohio Reveals Surprising Results for⁤ GOP Primary

A recent poll conducted ⁣by Ohio Northern University has shed light on the current standings of Republican candidates in‍ the crucial state of Ohio. The results⁢ show former President Donald Trump leading the pack with⁢ an impressive 64.1 percent support. However, what’s truly capturing attention is the unexpected rise of a dark horse candidate.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has emerged as a strong contender,⁢ securing second place with 11.8 percent support. This unexpected surge⁢ has⁢ pushed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis down to third place, with ⁢8.7 percent support.

The poll surveyed 675 Ohio residents and had a margin of error of 3.7 percent. Of the participants, 44 percent identified themselves as planning to vote in⁤ the GOP ⁢primary.

Historically, winning the Ohio Republican primary has often been a ⁣strong indicator of becoming the party’s nominee. However, there have been exceptions, such as former Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s victory in 2016. In 2000, former President George W. Bush won the Ohio GOP primary, ⁤and the trend continued in 2004‌ when he ran unopposed. ⁤In 2008, the late Sen. John McCain of ‌Arizona claimed victory, followed by current Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah in 2012. As an incumbent, Trump secured the win in⁣ 2020.

Despite DeSantis’ previous standing⁣ as a viable non-Trump ‌candidate,⁤ recent third-place finishes in polling have raised concerns about⁤ his campaign’s trajectory.‌ Philip Bump, writing⁣ in The Washington Post,⁣ noted that these results have diminished DeSantis’ appeal, making him just ‍another candidate in‌ the race.

Rich Lowry, editor ‌in chief at⁢ National Review, analyzed the challenges DeSantis faces in transitioning from a successful governor to a presidential candidate. Lowry highlighted the difficulties of replicating the nuts-and-bolts of governing on a national stage and suggested that DeSantis should emphasize his‌ effectiveness beyond fighting against “woke” culture.

As the race for the GOP nomination heats up, all eyes will be on Ohio to see if DeSantis can regain his momentum and secure a stronger ‌position in the polls. ‍The ⁢Western Journal will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
