DeSantis shrugs off 2024 poll slump for Trump: ‘I’m not in the running’

Get ready for some political drama! Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) isn’t fazed by recent polls showing him trailing behind former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.

“I’m not a candidate, so we’ll see if and when that changes,” DeSantis told reporters during his trip to Japan on Monday.

Trump’s lead over DeSantis has widened in most polls, but don’t count DeSantis out just yet. Despite a few controversies, including a dispute with Disney and a comment about the war in Ukraine, DeSantis remains Trump’s top rival in a hypothetical GOP field.

DeSantis has been crisscrossing the country, visiting early primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire as he considers a 2024 run. He’s currently on an overseas trip to Japan, South Korea, Israel, and the United Kingdom, billed as an “international trade mission” to strengthen Florida’s economic ties abroad. But let’s be real, we all know the 2024 undertones are there.

During his first stop in Japan, DeSantis met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss national security concerns, including the situation with North Korea and China. He also took the opportunity to promote his home state of Florida.

DeSantis has hinted that he’ll reveal his 2024 intentions after the Florida legislature wraps up its sessions at the end of May. Stay tuned!
