Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Handpicked Board Ends DEI Programs
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), handpicked by Governor Ron DeSantis, made a significant announcement this week. They have decided to put an end to all diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.
“Our district will no longer participate in any attempt to divide us by race or advance the notion that we are not created equal,” said District Administrator Glenton Gilzean.
The CFTOD stated that the previous DEI programs, implemented by the former Reedy Creek Improvement District, were discriminatory and costly to taxpayers. They claimed that these initiatives “discriminated against Americans based on gender and race, costing taxpayers millions of dollars.”
“The old district’s DEI initiatives were illegal and simply un-American,” Gilzean added.
As a result, the district’s DEI committee will be dissolved, and all DEI job duties will be eliminated. Furthermore, staff will no longer be allowed to use any work time for DEI initiatives.
The statement also mentioned that the previous DEI initiatives had caused the former Reedy Creek Improvement District to spend millions of dollars in search of businesses that could comply.
Political Implications
This news serves as a political victory for Governor DeSantis, who is currently running for president. According to The New York Times/Siena poll, DeSantis is in second place in the Republican primary field, trailing behind former President Donald Trump.
No other candidates come close to double digits in the polls, with former Vice President Mike Pence, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley all sitting at 3%. The remaining candidates have 2% or less support.

While Trump currently leads the polls, the same poll revealed that 46% of respondents who chose Trump are considering other candidates. This indicates a potential shift in support.
