Deputy Press Sec Puzzles Experts After Odd Response to Question About Cocaine in the WH
During a press briefing on Thursday, a question about the cocaine found at the White House left everyone puzzled.
White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates refused to answer whether the cocaine belonged to President Joe Biden or his son, Hunter, citing the Hatch Act.
The Hatch Act prohibits federal employees from discussing or using federal resources for campaign purposes, according to Fox News.

Former Bush administration ethics chief Richard Painter found Bates’ invocation of the Hatch Act ridiculous, stating that the law does not cover drug use.
Attorney Bradley Moss also questioned the relevance of the Hatch Act in this situation, suggesting that there may be other legitimate reasons for not responding.

Despite the confusion, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre scolded reporters for asking about the Biden family and the cocaine found in the White House.
She emphasized that the Biden family was not present at the White House during the time in question and called the question irresponsible.

The official transcript of the press briefing confirms that the question specifically mentioned former President Trump’s social media posts about the cocaine. Bates’ reference to the Hatch Act was apparently related to Trump’s involvement in the question.
