Depp/Heard Court Stenographer Tells Story Behind Hug With Johnny Depp After Backlash

The court stenographer for the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation case explained her hug with Depp in an exclusive interview with Law&Crime over the weekend.

According to the network, Judy Bellinger received harassment from some on social media over an Instagram photo that showed her interaction with Depp. Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy emphasized that Bellinger didn’t have any sway with the trial outcome as a stenographer.

Bellinger explained to the network that she was unable to get her equipment after closing arguments since she was locked out of the courtroom after running late after getting an oil change.

Depp’s team kindly packed up Bellinger’s belongings; they had a temporary office located nearby. The plan was to drop off the equipment to Bellinger, but because her office was closed, the court reporter came to the hotel.

“I guess Johnny had told them (his legal team) he would really like to meet the court reporter, which, was like, shocking to me,” a smiling Bellinger told Levy. “I’m like, ‘I’m just the court reporter!’”

When she went to get her stuff, Depp was in the hospitality room where her equipment was.

“I saw him, and they were like, ‘He really wants to meet you,’” she said. “I was in there for probably less than ten minutes. And he just hugged me, and thanked me again.”

Levy took to social media to further defend Bellinger.

“People are posting that court stenographer Judy from the #JohnnyDepp v. #AmberHeard trial was ‘partying’ with [Johnny Depp],” she wrote. “It’s NOT true. First, Judy is not a court employee. She was hired by the Depp and Heard teams. 2nd, she was not partying with him.”

“Judy was at that event for maybe 10 minutes,” Levy added. “The courthouse closes at 4 and her gear was locked inside. Depp’s lawyers collected it for her. She picked up her items and [Johnny Depp] hugged her and she left. That’s it. more to come.”

“Judy is being targeted online. LEAVE HER ALONE,” the correspondent added. “She did nothing wrong.”

Speaking on Law&Crime airwaves, Levy noted that “everyone in that courtroom, with the exception of Amber Heard, applauded Judy, last week, we all clapped for Judy.”

“She didn’t do anything wrong,” the host continued. “She can’t massage the record. She had people there assisting her, helping her as she was typing up the transcript, they were going through it to make sure there were no errors, whatsoever.”

A jury last week awarded Depp millions in monetary damages, finding that Heard defamed the actor in an op-ed published in The Washington Post in 2018.

“The jury gave me my life back,” Depp said in the statement following the major legal victory. “I am truly humbled.”

The actor said his life was turned upside-down when Heard launched her accusations of domestic violence against him, fingering the media for perpetuating the lies.

“False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me,” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star said. “It had already traveled around the world twice within a nanosecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career.”

Depp added that he pursued the case in the first place to “reveal the truth.”
