Democrats worry Stacey Abrams may run for governor’s office for third time: Report

Democrats are reportedly concerned over former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ potential bid for a third time. Abrams has expressed interest in running for office again, leading local Democratic leaders in the state to look toward other candidates.

Abrams lost her previous two bids for governor, and her expressed interest in running again has caused some Democratic officials to worry that she may fall into the “trap of becoming too much of a celebrity” that deterred her last two attempts.

Despite this concern, some officials believe that Abrams should not be barred from running again due to her efforts towards voter registration in the state.

“Georgia Democrats owe her a huge debt of gratitude for the work done over the last decade-plus to make this state competitive, and she will have support in another run,” said Pete Fuller, chairman of the Jackson County Democrats.

Abrams’ two previous losses were against Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA), with a loss margin of around 55,000 votes in 2018 and 300,000 in 2022.

The governor’s seat will likely be open in the 2026 election due to Kemp being term-limited.
