Dems celebrate ruling against Trump in E. Jean Carroll lawsuit.

Democrats are celebrating a major victory against former President Donald Trump! On May 9th, a New York jury ruled against Trump in a federal civil case brought against him by writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of sexually assaulting her in a department store. The jury awarded Carroll a whopping $5 million in damages, including $2 million in compensatory damages and $20,000 in punitive damages in the battery claim, and $2.7 million in compensatory damages and $280,000 in punitive damages in the defamation claim.

While the jury did not find that Trump raped Carroll, they did find him liable for battery based on the evidence of sexual abuse. Trump, who is running for president in 2024 and has denied the allegations, was quick to rail against the verdict, calling it a “disgrace” and “a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time!” His lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, also plans to appeal the decision.

But Democrats are celebrating this victory, with Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J.) tweeting, “The leader of the Republican party Donald Trump was just found liable for sexually assaulting a woman and ordered to pay $5,000,000. A civil jury just found the leader of the Republican party committed sexual assault.” Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.) also chimed in, writing “Good” in a retweet of the news.

It’s important to note that Trump was not convicted of a crime, but rather found civilly liable. Nonetheless, this is a major win for Carroll and a blow to Trump’s reputation. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing legal battle.
