During a Sunday interview with Kristen Welker on NBC News’s “Meet The Press,” Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) acknowledged the serious crisis at the U.S. southern border under President Joe Biden’s administration. However, she refrained from endorsing Biden as the party’s best option for the 2024 election.
When asked if Biden was the strongest candidate to take on the Republican nominee, Hassan evaded the question. Instead, she emphasized the need to address the rising costs of housing and healthcare.
While Hassan praised Biden’s record, she acknowledged the country’s anxiety over prices and the necessity to continue their work. Welker then questioned Hassan about Biden’s recent admission that the southern border was not secure.
Hassan responded by stating that the border is indeed in crisis and that security improvements are necessary. When asked if Biden should strike a deal with Republicans on asylum and parole issues, Hassan urged for bipartisan collaboration and compromise.
