A Democrat senator broke ranks with his party when it came to the Keystone XL pipeline. In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) said he supported the controversial project, in a slight to the Biden administration.

Tester explained he thought it was a mistake for Joe Biden to cancel its construction. He said there are caveats to that, including the need for safer standards in its construction and that it’s done while respecting people’s private property rights.

The senator added he has a personal connection to this issue because he is a farmer.

“But I will tell you, in my real life I’m a farmer, and we’re not where we need to be in the country for replacing diesel fuel with something else, in a tractor for example, or in a semi that’s going down the road,” Tester stated. “We will get there, but it’s going to take some good policies from Washington D.C.”

The decision to disband the project is going to cost an estimated 11 thousand jobs.
