Singer Demi Lovato Explains Decision to Use “She/Her” Pronouns Again

In a recent interview, Demi Lovato opened up about her choice to go back to using “she/her” pronouns alongside “they/them.” Lovato, who had previously identified as non-binary in 2021, shared that constantly having to explain her pronouns became “absolutely exhausting.”

During the interview with GQ Hype Spain, the 30-year-old pop singer expressed her frustration, stating, “I constantly had to educate people and explain why I identified with those pronouns. It was absolutely exhausting.”

However, Lovato emphasized the importance of continuing to spread awareness, saying, “I just got tired. But for that very reason, I know that it is important to continue spreading the word.”

In 2022, Lovato had previously explained her decision to return to identifying as “she/her,” stating that she was feeling more connected to her feminine side at the time. She described herself as a fluid person and expressed that she didn’t necessarily fit into the traditional binary gender categories.

“I didn’t feel like a man,” Lovato shared. “I just felt like a human. And that’s what they/them is about for me. It’s just about feeling human at your core.”

While Lovato’s pronoun usage may have caused confusion among fans, as she currently identifies as “she/her/they/them” in her Instagram bio, she emphasized that nobody is perfect and that respect is key when it comes to pronoun usage.
