Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has stated that the United States has boots on the ground to assist Israel in their efforts to rescue hostages from Hamas terrorists.
Austin made this statement while speaking to reporters during his trip to Brussels on Tuesday.
He also mentioned that the defense department has a Liaison Cell working closely with Israeli special forces.
Although he did not provide specific details about the American personnel involved, reports suggest that the U.S. Delta Force and Seal Team Six are ready to assist in the rescue operations.
Hamas currently holds numerous hostages, including several Americans. The terrorist organization has threatened to publicly execute these hostages in response to Israeli air strikes on Gaza.
“We don’t have an exact count of the potential American hostages,” Austin said. “However, I want to assure you that we are fully committed to this mission, and our intelligence community is working tirelessly to gather accurate information. When I spoke to Minister (Yoav) Gallant on Sunday, I offered our assistance to our special operators and our intelligence community.”
According to reports, at least 22 Americans have lost their lives in these attacks. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has stated that over 20 individuals are currently missing.
