DCCC mobilizes volunteers to knock nearly 40,000 doors
Last weekend, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) mobilized nearly 1,000 volunteers to knock around 40,000 doors as part of a grassroots effort called the “weekend of action,” aiming to boost Democratic support 100 days before the midterm elections. Democrats see this grassroots activity as vital in their bid to regain control of the House after losing it in 2022, despite recent surveys indicating a tightening in voter support and structural factors like redistricting and gerrymandering favoring Republicans.
EXCLUSIVE — The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee mobilized nearly 1,000 volunteers to knock roughly 40,000 doors last weekend as part of a grassroots initiative to mark 100 days before the midterm elections, according to figures shared first with the Washington Examiner.
The DCCC’s organizing program, dubbed a “weekend of action,” tripled turnout from the committee’s June program, according to the DCCC, and focused on eight of the most competitive districts in the country.

“Our ability to strategically energize and mobilize voters across the country will be key to House Democrats flipping the majority,” DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre said in a statement. “The hundreds of volunteers, shifts, and tens of thousands of doors knocked this past weekend all prove one thing: voters across the battlefield are ready to elect House Democrats in November.”
Six of the districts are labeled by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report as a “toss-up”—New York’s 17th District, Ohio’s 9th District, New Jersey’s 7th District, Colorado’s 8th District, Pennsylvania’s 8th District, and Washington’s 3rd District. Four of these seats are currently held by a Republican.
The DCCC also saw volunteers turn out in Michigan’s 8th District, a seat held by Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI) and labeled “lean Democrat,” as well as Virginia’s 1st District, held by Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) and labeled “lean Republican.”

Democrats launched this effort as they are favored to reclaim the majority for the first time since 2022, but a slew of new surveys have shown a tightening generic ballot margin.
Democrats won 40 seats in 2018, but the 2026 midterm elections are not expected to produce such a wave. Redistricting efforts across the country have reduced the number of competitive seats on the battlefield, and Republicans emerged with a narrow advantage in seats netted through gerrymandering.
