The Metro in Washington, ⁤D.C. Boosts Service to Accommodate​ Growing Ridership

The Metro in Washington, D.C. is stepping up its game to provide⁤ better service for passengers ⁣navigating the city. Starting Monday, Metro will be⁣ adding more trains to several of its lines, including the Red, Blue, Silver, Green, and Yellow lines. This increase‌ in service aims to meet the needs ⁤of​ the growing number of⁤ riders as more ⁤people return⁢ to their offices. Meanwhile, the Orange line will maintain its⁢ current train frequency of every 10 minutes.

“Metro is working hard to provide frequent, reliable ‌service‍ to help move our region and grow our‍ economy,” said Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke. “This service increase is another ⁢win for our customers and ‌a testament to Metro staff who have worked hard to ⁣restore safe, frequent service. We have ​great service levels available, and we ​hope that our region and customers use the system, and we see ridership​ continue to grow.”

This boost in‍ train service will result in over 6% more‌ train ​trips⁣ compared to the⁢ current schedule, amounting to a staggering 60% ⁢increase in daily train trips compared to the same time last year. These changes mark a historic‌ milestone for the Metro, with the highest number of trains ever ⁤operated.

The increase in train service follows the introduction of higher fare gates in July, which have successfully reduced ⁤fare evasion by over 70%. These ‍new barriers, with a height of⁢ 55 inches, are significantly stronger and more durable than the previous 28- to 48-inch prototype. Made of lightweight materials, ‌they provide enhanced security while ensuring a smoother passenger experience.
